How do we balance the mitzvah of simchat chatan v'kallah with financial reality? The essence of a wedding is kiddushin and building a bayit ne'eman b'Yisrael. It's not about the flowers, the band, the five thousand dollar dress. Those are externals that have crept in from the secular world. We must return to simplicity and focus on ruchniyut, not gashmiyut.

A wedding's essence is kiddushin and building a holy Jewish home, requiring only a mechitza, rabbi, and chuppah. Extravagance is showing off and counterproductive; simplicity is key. Mixed dancing drives away kedushah and invites negative influences. Funding lavish weddings with unrepayable loans is theft (gezel) and often leads to divorce, prompting Rabbinic decrees against excessive spending. Many guests attend selfishly and disrespectfully. Today's shidduch focus on material wealth over character and Torah creates transactional "marriages" prone to failure. True Jewish homes are built on Torah, mitzvot, and the couple's genuine connection, not ostentation or debt. We must return to humility and kedushah.
