Application of Pikuach Nefesh in Dangerous Situations

In Jewish law, the principle of pikuach nefesh, which prioritizes saving a life, allows one to override almost all other commandments, except for murder, idolatry, and forbidden sexual relations. This applies regardless of the endangered person's religion. However, if the danger to the rescuer is uncertain, halachic opinions vary. Some authorities, like HaGaon Rav Efraim Kahlon, argue that one should attempt a rescue when facing a minor risk to save another from certain death. The decision depends on the balance between the potential risk to the rescuer and the imminent threat to the endangered individual.
