Definition of The Melachah of Tying Shabbos Home 28-2 https://youtu.be/eDCY87oJdWg Learning the halacha of tying knots on Shabbos is essential for understanding how to properly handle everyday items like shoelaces, garbage bags, and food storage without violating the melacha of tying. Rabbi Lev Leib Lerner breaks down the fundamental rules of tying and untying as outlined in Torah law, tracing back to the construction of the Mishkan where knots were tied during weaving and setting up the courtyard curtains. In this class, you will explore the precise definition of what constitutes a forbidden knot according to halacha, including joining two separate strands or twisting pliable materials together. You will learn the distinctions between permanent and temporary knots, such as why double knots are forbidden while a single simple knot under specific circumstances may be permitted. The discussion also covers practical modern applications like garbage bags, clothing adjustments, and how to navigate household tasks on Shabbos with proper awareness of melacha. Understanding these principles ensures that your Shabbos observance aligns with the precise requirements of Torah law. — What are the rules of tying knots on Shabbos?
