Emulate the Righteous and Love All Klal Yisrael - Hilchos De'os (33)

In this insightful lecture, Rabbi Lev Leib Lerner explores a profound positive commandment that serves as a cornerstone for spiritual growth: the obligation to cleave to the sages and their disciples. This directive, often misunderstood or taken purely metaphorically, carries practical implications for how we conduct our lives and build our relationships. Rabbi Lerner delves into the question of how one can possibly cling to the Divine presence, a concept that seems beyond human grasp, and explains the resolution provided by our Sages. By associating with Torah scholars, eating and drinking with them, and supporting their endeavors, we create a tangible connection to holiness. The discussion moves beyond abstract philosophy into the realm of daily life, examining why it is so highly regarded to marry into the family of a Torah sage or to assist them in their business dealings. It is not merely a gesture of kindness but a vital way to internalize the values and deeds of those who dedicate their existence to the Torah. Rabbi Lerner unpacks the wisdom of the Rambam, helping us understand that these commandments are not rigid burdens, but organic pathways meant to integrate the Divine will into our human experience. As we explore these foundational laws, we are challenged to rethink our own priorities and connections. If we are instructed to cling to the wise to elevate ourselves, what does this truly require of us in our modern, busy lives? —————— BeEzrat HaShem Learn with Lerner LevLeib@BeEzratHaShem.org Join our FREE online classes every Monday to Thursday night: +1 201-725-3444 | JEW, BE, HOLY | —————— 00:00 - Intro 00:31 - Chapter 6: Halachah 2: Cleave to the Wise and Learn Their Deeds 27:17 - Chapter 6: Halachah 3: Love Your Neighbor As Yourself 51:38 - Outro Textbook for the Shiur: Hilchot De’os https://www.amazon.com/Mishneh-Hilchot.../dp/B000GW5NHC —————— Judaism places great emphasis on the performance of mitzvot that not only deal with deed and action, but also involve the development of our thoughts and feelings and the dedication of them to the service of G-d. It could be surprising for many people that personal growth is associated with commandments that we are obligated to fulfill, and it’s not a matter of personal choice. But don’t worry, you don’t have to do this alone. G-d, in His mercy, shows us a path that enables each one of us to grow intellectually and emotionally and use our potential for the service of G-d. Hilchot De’ot is one of the sections within Sefer Mishneh Torah by Rambam (Maimonides). Rambam demonstrated in Sefer Hilchot De’ot the objective law of personality developments as the path G-d shows us. Be’Ezrat Hashem, through learning and following the process of personal growth, we will be able to carry out all the other mitzvot with greater awareness and conviction. Eleven Mitzvot and dozens of Halachot are taught with commentaries and detailed explanation in Hilchot De’ot class, including five positive commandments and six negative commandments, as follows: to imitate His ways to cling to those who know Him to love others (fellow Jews) to love converts not to hate one’s fellow Jews to admonish [a wrongdoer] not to shame not to oppress the unfortunate not to bear tales not to take revenge not to bear a grudge Learning with Rabbi Lev Leib Lerner, and Be’Ezrat Hashem, we all adjust ourselves to the middle path and modify our middot to fulfill our potential for the service of our Creator. —————— #TorahHealth #TorahHealthAdvice #JewishObligation #JewishHashkafa #JewishValue #JewishMentality #ProblematicExtremeCharacterTraits #HilchosDeos #ShemonehPerakim #ThirteenPrinciplesOfFaith #HilchotDeot #LawsOfPersonalDevelopment #PersonalDevelopment #PersonalityDevelopment #Middos #Middot #LawsOfPersonalityDevelopment #CharacterTraits #CharacterTraitsDevelopment #LawsOfCharacterDevelopment #LawsOfCharacterTraitsDevelopment #characterdevelopment
