He paints a picture of Yom Kippur fervor, a time of high emotion where promises of spiritual growth flow freely. Six months later, Passover arrives, and those promises? Poof! Gone with the wind. The speaker then draws a parallel to G-d’s own “unfulfilled” promises, like the arrival of the Messiah, suggesting a sort of cosmic tit-for-tat: “G-d delays, I delay. What's the problem?” This feel-good message is resonating with many, but Rabbi Lerner isn't buying it. He sees something far more sinister lurking beneath the surface, something he calls “poisonous.” He argues that this seemingly harmless story is not only theologically flawed, but potentially dangerous, lulling us into a state of spiritual complacency.
